| Ivory Chess Set |
Late 19th/ early 20th century Ivory chess set in the Asian/Muslim style.
Of small size( king measures 4.9 cms high with base diameter of 1.4 cms) this probably indicates a travelling set originally used with a cloth board. Two black ink rings to the base differentiate between the sides.
A few minor "nibbles"; with one 'black' pawn having a more noticeable piece off the first turning below the 'head', and some ink spots to 'black' Queen (photos supplied on requested)

The board has satinwood and rosewood squares; the pieces are turned and carved bone ( natural and stained red)
Some 'pegs' have repairs
Board is 5" sq
Box measures 7 by 7 by 1 1/2 in high

A Travelling Chess Set in a folding Mahogany box.
The pieces are wooden, probably boxwood and ebonised.
The box folds and has a 'backbone' of mahogany that slips into place. When open it measure 6 ins square.

THE FALSE SPINES ARE PRINTED 'ENGLISH GAMES' AND 'VOL I/II'
THE BOX IS COVERED IN PRINTED PAPER TO SIMULATE LEATHER, WITH BOTH CHESS BOARD AND BACKGAMMON BOARD, THERE IS EVEN WATERMARKED PAPER TO SIMULATE THE PAGE EDGES. A FEW TEARS, SPLITS AND MARKS BUT NOTHING TO REALLY DETER THE OVERALL LOOK
THIS TYPE OF BOX WAS FREQUENTLY SOLD IN GAMMAGES AND SIMILAR OUTLETS IN THE EARLY 1900'S
COMES WITH CARD DICE SHAKER, TWO DICE (PLASTIC UNFORTUNATELY), 20 BOXWOOD AND EBONISED PIECES (SHORT, FOR A FULL GAME), AND A BOOK OF BACKGAMMON RULES.
